Taking notes in a meeting

The notes editor lives in the right column of Meeting Mode. It’s a full rich-text editor — write in whatever format works for you, and use slash commands to drop in structure when you need it.

Notes auto-save continuously as you type. There’s no save button to worry about, and nothing is lost if you close the tab unexpectedly. You can also force an immediate save with Cmd+S (or Ctrl+S on Windows).

Slash commands

Type / anywhere in the notes to open the command menu. Use the arrow keys to navigate and Enter to select, or just keep typing to filter the list.

CommandWhat it inserts
HeadingA section heading
SubheadingA smaller subheading
Bullet listAn unordered list
Numbered listAn ordered list
QuoteA blockquote callout
DividerA horizontal rule
GoalA goal block (see below)
TopicA topic block (see below)

Press Escape to dismiss the menu without inserting anything.

Goal blocks

Inserting a Goal block lets you capture a new goal for your direct report without leaving your notes. Type the goal title, then press Enter or Tab to move into the steps list. Each Enter adds a new step — press Enter on an empty step to exit back to the document.

To set a target date, type @ inside the goal title. A date picker appears — select a date and it’s attached to the goal.

When you end the meeting, any goal blocks in your notes are automatically saved as real goals on the direct report’s profile, with their steps and target date intact. You can also check the goal’s checkbox directly in the notes to mark it complete or reopen it while you’re talking.

Topic blocks

Topic blocks work similarly to goal blocks. Insert one with /topic, give it a title and an optional description, and it will be saved as a topic in the direct report’s backlog when the meeting ends.

You can check a topic’s checkbox during the meeting to mark it as discussed on the spot.

Formatting shortcuts

Beyond slash commands, the editor supports standard markdown-style shortcuts:

  • **bold** or Cmd+B
  • *italic* or Cmd+I
  • Start a line with - or * for a bullet list
  • Start a line with 1. for a numbered list
  • Start a line with > for a blockquote
  • Start a line with # for a heading, ## for a subheading

What happens to your notes after the meeting

When you end a meeting, Mora uses your notes to update the relationship profile for that person — refreshing the career goals summary, recurring themes, and sentiment trend. This happens automatically in the background.

Notes are also saved to the meeting record permanently. You can review them any time from the meeting detail page or from the Notes tab on a direct report’s profile.

Searching past notes

Use Ask Mora to search across all your past notes. Ask in plain language — “What did I say I’d follow up on with Jamie?” — and Mora finds the relevant meeting and surfaces the answer. See Using Ask Mora for details.
